Harpoon

This harpoon is made for play and uses in competitions.

It is made after a model of a Greenlandic kayak seal harpoon.

The harpoon is made from pine and reinforced with elm on both ends. A loose fore-shaft is made from elm and tied to the harpoon shaft with a string of leather. A throwing stick is included.

The harpoon is made by hand and given a finishing treatment of linseed oil for durability and patina.

It is 210 cm (6' 10") long including fore-shaft. It weighs just about 1000 grams and is therefore similar to the harpoons used in international Greenlandic kayak championships.
